Growing up in a house with a garden, surrounded with plants & trees makes it feel like your life is missing something if you don’t have plants in your place. So we decided to buy plants & that was about two months before our annual vacation. Honestly, I just wanted plants in my living room, even if I knew it was going to be a problem if we decided to go on vacation. Of course, I ignored that thought! I was so happy with the way they looked & made sure to ask the man at the store every question in the world about how to take care of them. The last thing I needed is taking them home to watch them die!
Everything was great, the plants we chose don’t need a lot of care & maintenance. I would water them once a week & as he recommended never flood them with water! So I would water them every Saturday, & wipe dust off the leaves & then spray them with water (He didn’t tell me to spray the leaves, I just felt like they might enjoy that lol). OK I know you’re thinking I’m silly. Now stop it, will ya? hhhhh
Anyway, we were so happy when our neighbor said it was OK to keep them at his place to take care of them while we are gone. We made sure to give him all the instructions especially the amount of water they need. I even wrote a note & taped it on the pot, saying (Please water us Saturday 🙂 ). We left the country & from time to time I would mention the plants or my hubby would! So our thoughts were with them! When we came back, we never saw our neighbor’s car in the parking lot, until yesterday. My husband came back home & said I’m going to get the plants back. He brought the first one in. What I saw was yellow & brownish things, that were green the last time I saw them 😦 he went outside to bring the second plant & it was BEYOOOOOOOOOOOOND anything I have ever expected. My jaws dropped to the floor, because the leaves were GONE! I was like: Where’s the plant?? My husband couldn’t help but laugh, he almost crushed what was left inside the pot. He put it down & still in denial it reminded me of those science fiction movies where they have some weirdy looking robot or creature with a body like a stick & two eyes coming out of somewhere that’s supposed to be their head? That’s what the poor plant reminded me of. It was really sad, but we basically rolled on the floor laughing about all of it. He said that our neighbor said that everyday a leaf would fall off (Poor things they wanted to be home). I still have no idea what happened but my husband said that even our neighbor’s plants were dying so he kind of anticipated all of this before he saw the plants! Now I hope they’ll be able to recover soon, because it really makes a difference when you have plants at home.
Here’s what’s left from our Zamioculas & Elastica! If you got any tips on how to help these guys recover, I’ll be very happy to hear from you.
I wish I had suggestions for you. I am a plant killer. My mom (Joyce’s sis) gave me a plant a few months ago and it is not doing so well.
Salaams:
Here’s a link to the care of the zamioculas (money tree plant).

It’s the best article I’ve found on them. I have a huge one, Alhamdulillah. According to the article, your plant will probably recover. Keep watering it like you did before. It could be in it’s resting stage. The article says that some of them drop EVERY leaf to the dismay of their owners. But then they come back.
Keep us posted 🙂
Thank you so much for the link, it was very helpful!
Hahaha… (I don’t mean the laugh in a malicious way…), the same thing happened to us a few years back. We went away for a couple of months and we asked our tenant downstairs to come up and water our plants regularly. “She forgot…” Several of our plants actually died. Yours don’t seem to have been totally beyond hope. What did you do with them?
The Zamioculas revive nicely, and the Elastica can be cut down at the top, placed in a jar with water and let it develop roots. You will have a new plant. A more professional way is to slice only halfway, tie a small plastic pouch with soil in it around the cut and keep it moist . In a week or two roots will start filling up the pouch and you can cut it completely for replanting. So I hope you did not throw yours out. 😦
Thanks a lot for your comment. It was very helpful!
